love and light.
original post date - june 1, 2020
This is the first blog post in this new phase of brena's breakthroughs. This relaunch almost didn't happen, but after much deliberation, I decided I wanted to be a source of love and light in a time that feels dark for many us. #BlackLivesMatter, even though the world still may not see it.
I have been heavily reconsidering postponing this relaunch for several days. The country is literally on fire right now and I was (and still am) afraid that this relaunch will be perceived as tone-deaf when that is not the intention. So why didn’t I postpone it? Simple. In the midst of all of this, I want to use the platform I’ve been blessed with to be a source of love and light for those who need it. I want to let it be known that this website is still a safe space and you have me to lean on. Now more than ever, we need each other. I can’t speak for anybody else, but I’m angry, exhausted, heartbroken, drained and a slew of other things I cannot begin to describe because I don’t fully understand them yet. If you’re like me, you just want a few moments of relief from all the heaviness. My appetite isn’t the same, I’ve barely slept, and my anxiety shoots up whenever I leave my house or when my family isn’t at home together. This is tough for many of us — mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually — and my brain needs a break. Don’t get me wrong, in wanting a break, I am not diminishing the gravity of what this is. I’m just trying to take my own advice and take better care of myself. I said all of that to say this: You matter. You’re valued. You’re loved. You’re appreciated. Please don’t let any post, tweet, video, news report, or piece of propaganda lead you to believe otherwise. In the midst of everything going on right now, do your best to protect yourselves and your peace. Disconnect if necessary. Vent. Write. Do what you need to do for you. As weighed down as you may feel, know that I am here to lift you up as much as I can. Black lives matter. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. Forever.
